@bloodfalcon7722: It sounds like you are describing mature hypertrophic scars which can very effectively be treated with tiny injections of cortisone. See your dermatologist for treatment.

@brandlee1985 The only marks from acne that hydroquinone will help are tan or brown darkening from pimples (not redness or raised or depressed scars).

Have you ever heard of “Derma-roller?” There’s a lot of videos on youtube and it was even featured on the Racheal Ray show. What do you think? Do you think it actually works?

Hi Doctor – I’m 28 years old with red acne scars and enlarged pores on my cheeks. I recently saw a medical esthitician who suggested the Affirm laser as something that stimulates collagen production, etc. and really improve skin condition. Is there actual scientific evidence supporting/proving the benefits of this type of laser tx? any information would be greatly appreciated.

What about white colored acne scars, my arms/chest are covered in them as I used to break out as a teen very heavily, now I don’t break out as much on those areas and I am looking for a solution/procedure that will help fade them, etc.

  10. dermTVdotcom says:

@sara2618 It depends upon whether they are depressed or raised. If depressed, then this video is appropriate. If raised, then they are treated with injections of cortisone to flatten them.

  11. dermTVdotcom says:

@mousa1019 Yes there is meaningful evidence and information available, which you can find by visiting the Affirm website.

@arturor48 I’m not quite sure from your condition. I would suggest seeing a dermatologist. They could even just been clogged enlarged pores.

  16. dermTVdotcom says:

@MegaZoneEXE Non-ablative laser treatments, such as with the Fraxel, can help acne scars in patients with African skin tones, but ablative lasers like CO2 are very risky and should be avoided.

  17. LaFemmeRousse says:

What exactly causes scars? Why does acne sometimes cause scars and other times it doesn’t. Also, what causes the different types of scars (crater vs. ice-pick scars)?
    Thank you!

Hi doctor, I am almost 15 and I have a bunch if acne on my forehead. I know that I will have scarring, I can even feel some of it already, but I’m pretty sure most of them will be crater scars. Will any treatments COMPLETELY erase scars? From what I can feel, they’re not too deep, except for like two, I’m mostly just concerned with the more shallow ones though because there is more of them. And also, should I be embarrassed about having scars? Will girls not like me for it? Anyone?

  19. JuggaloWorldOrder says:

Hey doc. So I’m 15 years old and have had very bad acne on my face and back. I have went to my dermatologist to have them treated but now I’m left with what you call “crater” scars on my back. I was wondering how much is it gonna cost me to have the laser surgery on my back to have them removed?

How much are laser procedures for acne scars?

  22. hondavtecc says:

Retin A Micro is another way to treat scars. My derm says so anyways…I have used it to get my acne under control. It has done just that. The hyperpigmentation has been fading and it actually created some small indentations that hopefully will fill in with the Retin A.

Hello Dr. Neal, I am South Asian, Pakistani to be precise, and have acne AND acne scars. I just want to have your opinion on Accutane and wether I should use it or not, given its long list of side effects, and once I am done with acne, should I do chemical peel or laser or what, and is it really a realistic aim to have nearly 100% clear skin, with no redness?
    Thanks!
